ECORA Steering Clinic
Saturday May 9 – Sunday May 10 - KIYC – Yacht Club Drive, Chester, MD
We are excited to announce the upcoming Steering Clinic with world-renowned waterman Nick Beck. Nick is a legend in the Outrigger Community with 30+ Molokai Crossings and 5-time Molokai Winner.
The price for this 2-day event is $30 per person and includes lunch on Saturday. The majority of the clinic will be concentrated on Saturday and will continue on Sunday for anyone who can attend. It will be predominately lecture-based with boat time as Nick sees fit.
We encourage anyone who is a current steersman – and also steersman wannabe’s to attend. We are confident everyone will take away a wealth of knowledge.

- Steersmen responsibilities (Rigging & pre-paddle checklist)
- Picking the best course & covering your competition
- Motivating & controlling a crew
- Identifying and helping struggling and hurting paddlers
- Keeping a crew safe
- Steering in big water or bad conditions
- Surfing waves
- How to deal with head on and ama side waves
- Taking a canoe out through surf
- Bring a canoe in through surf
- Emergency situations
